A Little About the Title

The Three Samurai

So perhaps I should begin my second post with a little about the title of this ongoing work, the result of a good ten minutes of brainstorming over a cup of tea.

The hope of combining a literary reference with a photography pun sounded like a good starting point to me. Rejected titles included Jude the Camera Obscura, A Tale of Two Exposures and even the cringeworthy The Camera in the Rye. Persevere though I did, I couldn't settle on a title I liked. That is, until my wife suggested a reference to the great H.G. Wells novel, The Invisible Man.

The Invisible Man
As fate would have it, during a recent trip to Iowa City, I'd just bought a lined notebook that was made to look like an old Penguin edition, and snapped it up for a measly $10.

The Invisible Man was also a major part of my MA dissertation, which focused on how technology 'evolves' in H.G. Wells's Scientific Romances. Long story short, as technology advances, biology regresses. If you're interested and you can find it, check out Wells's short article, The Man of the Year Million.

But enough of that. It's the implied title that has more significance to me. Not many of the photographs I post on Flickr and elsewhere seem to have many people in them, and being behind the camera half of the time, I might as well be invisible. I'm working on this.

So expect some photography related articles, and maybe a book review, or an anecdote or two in the not too distant future.

P.S. Come to think of it, The Invisible Cameraman does also sound a little like a website for voyeurs. I wouldn't get your hopes up for any of that kind of content on here anytime soon.
